Makeup Master Class by Negar Khoshgoo was a sold-out half-day educational experience held at UBC Robson Square in downtown Vancouver. Sixty attendees came to learn from one of Vancouver's most prominent makeup artists in a setting that felt nothing like a typical workshop. They left with pages of notes, new skills, and a changed relationship with makeup.

Elevating a workshop into a masterclass

Negar Khoshgoo is known in Vancouver's beauty community for the precision and artistry of her work. When she reached out to Onyxpulse, she had a clear vision for what she wanted and an equally clear vision for what she did not want. Not a salon. Not a casual gathering. A real educational experience that reflected the standard of her craft and gave attendees something they could not get anywhere else.

The format itself was straightforward. What was harder was finding a space that could carry the weight of that vision. The venue needed to seat 60 guests at tables with enough room to practice, have professional projection capabilities, sit in the heart of downtown Vancouver, and stay within budget. Several locations were explored including SFU and community spaces around the city. UBC Robson Square checked every box.

Keeping a five hour session on track was its own challenge. With demonstration, practice and individual feedback all woven into the day, active time management was essential to make sure every part of the session got the attention it deserved without running over.

Built around the learning

The Setting

Walking into UBC Robson Square set a tone that no salon or community room could have matched. The classroom layout, the professional AV setup, the downtown location, all of it told attendees before the session even began that they were somewhere serious. That first impression mattered. It gave Negar the right stage and it gave attendees the right mindset.

The Demonstration

Negar worked on a live model throughout the session with a camera positioned directly above her workspace and connected to the projector. Every technique she applied appeared on screen in real time, visible to all 60 people in the room regardless of where they were sitting. Nothing was lost to distance or angle. The technology was simple but the effect was significant. It turned a workshop into something closer to a masterclass.

The Participation

Attendees were encouraged to bring their own tools and follow along as Negar demonstrated each technique. Every seat had a mirror, a brush, and a printed face guide with pens for notes. The format moved between demonstration and practice throughout the day, so by the time Negar closed a technique, attendees had already tried it themselves. Toward the end of the session, she moved through the room individually, answering questions and giving each person personal feedback.

The Backdrop

A custom designed photo backdrop created by Pampas and Bloom gave the day a polished visual moment that reflected the overall standard of the event.

Sold out. Skills gained.

The Makeup Master Class sold out. Sixty attendees filled the room and the response reflected exactly what Negar had set out to create.

The engagement in the room was visible from start to finish. One attendee filled both sides of two pages with notes. Another said the workshop completely changed the way she approaches makeup. People came in curious and left with real skills, the kind that come from watching something done correctly, trying it yourself, and getting personal feedback in the same afternoon.

The venue proved to be the right call. The credibility of UBC Robson Square elevated the experience in a way the content alone could not have achieved. It signaled to every person who walked in that their time and investment were being taken seriously.
